At Ardmac, the Safety First approach means that safety is everyone’s responsibility and is reflected in work planning, competence development, and everyday operations. In Finland, Ardmac uses Occupational Safety Card training provided through Trainify's Työturvakortit.fi service as part of ensuring its employees have the safety competence required for their work.

For nearly 50 years, Ardmac has operated as an international specialist construction company delivering complex technical environments for sectors including data centres, life sciences, microelectronics, and industrial projects. The company operates across Europe, including Finland. Ardmac places safety first among its core operating principles, with its Safety First philosophy guiding how work is carried out across projects and at every level of the organisation.

Safety First Is Part of Everything Ardmac Does

Ardmac’s approach to safety is based on the idea that safety is not simply about following rules or carrying out individual measures. The company describes safety as being deeply embedded in its culture and emphasises each employee’s personal responsibility for working safely.

Ardmac’s Compliance and Administrative Officer Cibele Rocha explains how this approach translates into practice:

"For Ardmac, Safety First means that safety is considered at every stage of our work, from planning and preparation through to the execution of our projects. It is not only about following procedures, but also about creating a culture where everyone takes responsibility for their own safety and the safety of those around them." "In everyday working life, this is reflected in our procedures, risk assessments, safety briefings, training and regular communication with our employees and project teams. We encourage people to be proactive, identify potential risks and speak up when they see something that could be improved."

Safety is considered from the planning stage onwards and is also an important part of competence development. Ardmac’s Safety First programme includes practices such as learning from safety observations and near misses, planning tasks in advance, developing employee competence, and encouraging people to raise safety-related concerns and observations.

Ensuring that employees have the necessary knowledge and training is therefore a natural part of this wider approach.

Occupational Safety Card Training Supports Shared Safety Competence

In Finland, Ardmac has arranged Occupational Safety Card training for its employees through Trainify’s Työturvakortit.fi service.

Occupational Safety Card training provides employees with a shared foundation for working safely at shared workplaces. The training covers topics such as identifying hazards in the working environment, safe working practices, and the responsibilities of different parties in maintaining workplace safety.

In an international project environment such as Ardmac’s, employees work on demanding sites where safety competence must be part of everyday operations. The Occupational Safety Card is one practical way of ensuring a common baseline of safety knowledge among people working in Finland.

For Ardmac, maintaining competence means both keeping qualifications current and ensuring that employees can apply what they have learned:

"Training and maintaining employees' competencies are essential parts of our Safety First approach. It is important that employees not only have the required qualifications, but also understand how to apply their knowledge safely in their daily work,” Rocha says. Keeping training and certifications up to date helps ensure that our employees remain aware of safety requirements and good working practices. This is particularly important for us as we operate across different projects and countries, where requirements can vary,” Rocha explains.

Flexible Training That Fits Around Project Schedules

When choosing a training provider, Ardmac looked for flexibility, reliability, and straightforward arrangements:

"We chose Trainify because we were looking for a reliable and flexible training provider that could support our employees in completing the required Occupational Safety Card training. The availability and flexibility of the training, together with the straightforward communication and organisation, made Trainify a suitable option for our needs,” Rocha says.

Trainify’s Occupational Safety Card training is delivered as hybrid learning. Participants first complete half of the required training hours independently in the Trainify learning app and then attend an online webinar led by a TTK-certified instructor. TTK is the Finnish Centre for Occupational Safety.

This format makes it easier to fit the training around work and project schedules. Participants can choose when to complete the independent learning section, but all self-study materials must be completed before joining the webinar. This reduces the amount of instructor-led time compared with a traditional full-day training course.

Ardmac can register employees for open training sessions as new training needs arise. This allows the required qualifications to be completed smoothly alongside the practical day-to-day demands of projects and workforce planning.

Ardmac has also found the booking and training arrangements easy to manage:

“Our experience with the booking and training arrangements has been very positive. The process has been straightforward and easy to manage, and communication has been clear whenever we have needed support or additional information,” Rocha says.

A Strong Safety Culture Is Built Through Continuous Action

Ardmac emphasises that a strong safety culture is created through participation across the entire organisation. Safety begins with personal responsibility but extends to work planning, competence development, and the company’s broader ways of working.

Occupational Safety Card training is only one part of this wider framework, but it is also a practical example of how safety competence is maintained in everyday operations.

Based on its experience, Ardmac would recommend Trainify to other companies:

“Yes, based on our experience, we would recommend Trainify to other companies looking for Occupational Safety Card training. We have found the service to be reliable, flexible and easy to arrange, with good communication throughout the process. This makes it easier for us to coordinate employees' training and ensure that the necessary safety competencies are maintained without creating unnecessary administrative complexity,” Rocha concludes.

Ardmac’s aim is to ensure that safety is considered in everything it does. Trainify’s Työturvakortit.fi service contributes to this by making the required Occupational Safety Card training as smooth and flexible as possible to complete.
